The movie industry is one of the worst affected due to the ongoing lockdown imposed in order to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus. This is partly due to two reasons one of which is movies which are currently under shooting have not been able to accomplish any on ground work and movies which are supposed to be released have not yet been released because movie theaters are closed and may be closed for the foreseeable future being the second reason.
This has offered a unique opportunity for the OTT platforms like Aha, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and other similar streaming platforms to buy rights for movies which are ready to be released. Some movies from Bollywood, Tollywood and Kollywood have already been released and several others have announced releases. This led to movie theater chains and owners protesting against it leading into a war of theater releases versus OTT releases.
Rana Daggubati, who is a popular producer cum director shares his views on this issue. Speaking to a popular entertainment media house, Rana said that actors or organisations would prefer moving to OTT platforms if there are censorship issues. However movies like Avengers or Star Wars. which are graphic heavy and 3D releases would be better off releasing in movie theaters.
On the professional front, Rana Daggbubati will next be seen in an upcoming mult-lingual movie Aranya in which he will be seen as Bandev, who protects forest lands. The plot of the movie is about how Bandev goes up against a corporate company aiming to take over forest land which is frequented by elephants. The movie is a classic tale of good versus evil but it would be presented in a fresh manner. Rana underwent a dramatic physical transformation in order to do justice to the role of Bandev.
