Uppena is an upcoming Telugu movie which would mark the debut of Panja Vaisshnav Tej, who is the younger brother of Sai Dharam Tej and also Megastar Chiranjeevi’s nephew. The movie developed a good buzz when it was announced Mekkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi would be starring in the movie as the antagonist.
However it looks like Uppena managed to impress Tamil superstar Thalapathi Vijay even before its theatrical release. Vijay was so impressed with the script of Uppena that he believed a Tamil remake would be the perfect movie for the debut of his son Jason Sanjay. It is learnt that Viay Sethupathi narrated the script to Vijay on the sets of Master, a highly anticipated Vijay starrer. Vijay Sethupathi would be co producing the movie along with Mythri Movie Makers, who produced Uppena. An official remake would be made once Jason returns back to Chennai.

Jason Sanjay is currently studying filmmaking in Canada and the untitled remake is set to go on the floors next year when Jason returns to Chennai. Moreover, Vijay Sethupathi would be reprising the role of the antagonist in the Tamil remake and also would be producing the Tamil remake. Buchi Babu Sana who directed Uppena would also be directing the Tamil remake of the film.
Vijay Sethupathi’s character is named as Rayanam in the movie and it is also believed that Uppena is loosely based on the infamous Nalgonda honor killing. The film is produced jointly by Mythri Movie Makers and Sukumar Writings. Devi Sri Prasad scored the music for Uppena.
