The entire Indian population united once again for a common cause in one of the largest displays of solidarity in the country if not the entire world. The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, asked Indians to turn off the lights in their home at 9 PM and for nine minutes on April 5th, 2020. The reason for the request is to stand in solidarity as a nation against the highly infectious COVID-19 virus.
Needless to say as the clock struck 9 PM, lights went out in every house and balconies had people with phone flashlights on, lit diyas and cheers to everyone who was in this fight together. Our very own Tollywood stars have participated in this exercise as well. Superstar Mahesh Babu posted a picture on his Twitter which shows him holding a candle in his balcony. The picture is minimalistic with only Mahesh Babu’s face illuminated by the light from the candle and surrounded by complete darkness.

This was the second time Narendra Modi requested the Nation to come together. The first time was on the Janta Curfew imposed on March 22nd, where the Prime Minister requested everyone to come out on their balconies and cheer for the healthcare workers, doctors, police and other heroes who are working tirelessly working on the frontlines to ensure everyone’s safety. A lot of Tollywood stars along with their families participated in the exercise as well.
Mahesh Babu was recently in the news when he announced a donation of one crore rupees to the Chief Minister’s relief funds of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Mahesh Babu also announced a donation of 25 lakh rupees to the Corona Crisis Fund which intends to help the daily wage workers in Tollywood who are badly impacted by the lockdown which put all shooting schedules on hold.
