The magnum opus Baahubali catapulted S.S. Rajamouli and his skills to new heights across India, cementing his place as one of the best directors the Telugu film industry produced. The success of Baahubali was such that it spawned merchandise, comics and animation series dedicated to it.
RRR is director Rajamouli’s latest project after Baahubali and it is currently under production. The movie, which is slated to be released on January 8th, 2021, already started breaking records before even hitting the screens.
The theatrical rights of RRR were sold across South India and overseas and fetched mind boggling numbers. The theatrical rights were sold for a whopping Rs. 215 crores in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Rs. 50 crores in Karnataka and Rs. 15 crores in Kerala, while the theatrical rights for the overseas market were sold for Rs. 70 crores.
Doing the math, RRR seems to have already collected Rs. 350 crores before its release. No other Indian movie has achieved this feat till date. While these are just the numbers from the South Indian and the overseas markets, the rights for the Hindi regions are yet to be sold, meaning the actual collections from the sale of theatrical rights will be much higher.
RRR is a Telugu film starring Ram Charan, Jr. NTR, Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Alison Doody, Ray Stevenson and Olivia Morris.
