Nandamuri Balakrishna has been a crowd puller right from his image makeover days in Narasimha Naidu. The star, at the age of 59, continues to challenge himself with each film.
Ruler is the 105th film of Balakrishna, in a career spanning more than 40 years. K.S. Ravikumar shows the actor in a new avatar in Ruler.
Cast: Nandamuri Balakrishna, Vedhika, Sonal Chauhan, Prakash Raj and Jayasudha
Direction: K.S. Ravikumar
Music: Chirantan Bhatt
Sarojini Prasad (Jayasudha) is a big IT business magnate. Once, during her journey, she notices a bleeding boy (Balakrishna) and takes him with her and adopts him as her child. He seems to be unaware of his past and is nonplussed. She understands his predicament and rasies him as her heir, by naming him Arjun Prasad and gives him the best education. Arjun Prasad gets trained in business management in the U.S.A.
Arjun returns to India and catapults his mother’s company to number one position. Fate, however, has other plans for him. In the process of restarting an abandoned project of her Company, situated in Uttar Pradesh, Sarojini is insulted by the local goons. Arjun Prasad hears about the news from a third person and goes to Uttar Pradesh to teach the goons a lesson by beating them up. After this ordeal, people there notice him and start addressing Arjun as Dharma as they mistake him for a local police officer who gave his life fighting for their cause. Arjun comes to know Dharma was killed deliberately by his rivals in the state. Who was Dharma? What was his relationship with the local goons? These questions are answered during the film’s second half.
Ruler is a screenplay driven movie, which is powered by the image of Balakrishna and his personality. The star gets the best lines to mouth, his body language and action sequences are all entertaining. Balakrishna lives up to the expectation of an image driven star who makes movies to entertain his loyal audience.
Another aspect at which he excels is the looks he displays as a businessman and as a cop. In his two contrasting looks, he looks convincing.
Veteran actress Jayasudha is the next best in the movie and as usual, does justice to her role of an ambitious businesswoman. Heroines Vedhika and Sonal Chauhan have less screen space, but they score in the glamour quotient of this action drama.
Chirantan Bhatt’s score in this movie is good and he delivers the most with his background score.
Director K.S. Ravikumar does a clean job by keeping the sentiments of loyal Balakrishna fans in mind. Ruler will definitely live up to these fans’ expectations from a Balakrishna film.
