Noted producer D. Ramanaidu had a dream—his son, Venkatesh Daggubati and his grandson, Naga Chaitanya, collaborate for a movie.
His elder son, producer Suresh Babu, made his father’s wish a reality with Venky Mama. The movie is a tribute to the man who launched Suresh Productions.
Movie Details:
Cast: Venkatesh, Naga Chaitanya, Payal Rajput and Raashi Khanna
Direction: Bobby
Music: S. Thaman
Story:
Military Naidu (Venkatesh) has a fight with his extended family and brings his sister’s son, Karthik (Naga Chaitanya,) to his village, after his sister’s untimely death.
Naidu literally brings up Karthik, right from his childhood and Karthik develops a close bond with his uncle. As time passes by, Karthik falls in love with Haarika (Raashi Khanna.) Their relationship is not approved by Haarika’s father (Rao Ramesh.)
Haarika’s father hatches a plan to divide the uncle and nephew and is successful in creating a rift between them. However, Naidu distances himself from Karthik for a different reason altogether. Why did Naidu distance himself from the boy he literally fathered? Do they find a solution to the problem? Venky Mama addresses this during the second half of the story.
Review:
Venkatesh is a spontaneous star with a good comic timing. He leads the movie upfront with his situational dialogue delivery. Naga Chaitanya, too, in a tailor made role for him, excels in his comic avatar. In fact, he comes out with flying colours in his first out and out comedy film.
The bonding between Venkatesh and Naga Chaitanya is adorable and looks convincing on screen. Payal Rajput adds to the glamour quotient in this movie as a teacher, Vennela.
Apart from giving importance to family bonding, the director gave equal importance to the comic sequences in the story which include Raashi Khanna and Payal Rajput.
The background score by S. Thaman is also an asset to Venky Mama. Thaman is easily the most happening music director of this season, with a bunch of big budget movies like Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo and Disco Raja.
Director Bobby, with his right mix of serious drama and fun filled comedy in the screenplay, shows he is a great commercial director who knows how to project his heroes and narrate a story.
Go for Venky Mama this week—you will relish the experience!
