- Ram Charan (Vinaya Vidheya Rama)
This Boyapti Srinu movie is noted for its mass character of Ram Charan as Ram, who takes revenge on a local dictator when his family is threatened. Ram Charan got an image makeover with this movie, which proved Ram Charan can be as great a mass hero as his legendary father, Megastar Chiranjeevi.
- Naga Chaitanya (Majili)

Arguably the number one mass movie of 2019, this Puri Jagannadh film showcased the mass style of Energetic Star Ram Pothineni. The actor played the role of a contract killer, Shankar, to perfection, showing his versatile skill as both a class and a mass hero. The movie is now being remade in Hindi and will also have a sequel.
- Vijay Deverakonda (Dear Comrade)
Vijay gave his best performance as the hot blooded teenager Bobby who easily traverses through the roles of a student leader, a cricketer and a man who brings back the lost career of his lover. The character had a lot of dimensions, which Vijay pulled off quite impressively.
- Sharwanand (Ranarangam)
This Sudheer Varma movie gave Sharwanand a different role of a city lad who starts as a small seller of black market tickets and goes on to become a great don of the underworld. This movie showed another side of Sharwanand, proving his versatility.
- Varun Tej (Gaddalakonda Ganesh)
Varun Tej came out of his comfort zone and played the role of Gaddalakonda Ganesh, which was outstanding. The actor changed his look, dialogue delivery and body language to suit the role of a local Telangan don. This gave Varun Tej more confidence to experiment with such roles.
- Chiranjeevi (Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy)
This role of an 18th century warrior from the coastal Andhra region, was tailor made for Chiranjeevi, who lived the character of Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy to the hilt. The Megastar of Tollywood added his mass appeal to the already existing material, making Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy a memorable movie.
- Rajinikanth (Petta)
Superstar Rajinikanth, as always, rocked in the role of a humble hostel warden who saves his loved ones from a local don. The looks, style and manner in which Rajinikanth delivered his lines made this Karthik Subbaraj movie a top mass entertainer.
- Suriya (NGK)
Superstar Suriya shed all his starry airs to portray a local political leader who rises from a small party worker to one who poses a challenge to the main local politician in NGK. This Selvaraghavan movie was noted for Suriya’s no holds barred role of a streetsmart politician.
- Vijay (Whistle)
Thalapathy Vijay starred in this Atlee movie in the dual role of both a father and a son. He made a strong impression as a sports coach of a women’s team and as a man who fights for his people’s rights and safety.
Hence, Tollywood saw some really good performers excel in their art of adapting to various genres, be it a usual commercial hero role or a demanding mass character.
