Whistle Telugu Movie Review

Tamil superstar Vijay is a crowd puller in Tamil Nadu because of his versatile acting skills.  The star is a combination of good dancing skills, neat performance and superb comic timing.

He is not a newcomer in Tollywood as his movies like Thupaki were dubbed into Telugu and became hits.

Now, Vijay has come up with his new offering, Bigil, which released today in Telugu as Whistle.

Movie Details:

Cast: Vijay, Nayanthara, Jackie Shroff and Kathir

Direction: Atlee

Music: A.R. Rahman

Micheal (Vijay) is a protector of the masses.  His motto is to help the poor in his locality, for which he earns a lot of enemies who target him and wait for the right opportunity to harm him.

One day, one of Micheal’s friends, a football coach, gets injured and is left to the protection of Micheal.  Micheal has a task cut out for him as he must lead a women’s football team as their coach, in lieu of his injured friend.

However, Micheal is outrightly rejected by the women on the football team and Micheal has to sort out issues with them.  How does he do this? What is the reason behind the rejection he faced from the women? What is his past? How does Micheal inspire the team to win a tournament at the end?  The answers to these questions form the rest of the story of Whistle.

The main reason for which Whistle should be watched is, undoubtedly, Vijay.  The man, at an age above 40, displays astonishing agility while playing a football coach.  He is seen in two different roles in this movie and plays both the roles very impressively.  As a young coach and also an aging gangster, Vijay displays considerable variety. Mostly, he scores in the emotional scenes during the second half.

Another department in which the movie scores big is its technical departments, in the way the football matches are depicted.  Nayanthara plays her role as Vijay’s lover, Angel Aseervatham, very well, though it is a supporting role. Vivek makes a comeback as a chief comedian in his combination scenes with Vijay and Kathir as Vijay’s friend is impressive.  Jackie Shroff as the main villain, Sharma, plays his role well during the second half.

The artists who portray the players of the women’s football team do a decent job in the movie, with a backstory for each player of the team.  They are important because the movie’s theme is centred on women empowerment.

A.R. Rahman’s music plays an important role in the proceedings, with a soothing score in the sports sequences and in the emotional scenes.

On the whole, Whistle is an emotional sports drama which caters to the general audience and has every element which interests Vijay’s fans.  The general audience will not be disappointed with the movie.
