Karthi Khaidi Telugu Movie Review

Karthi Sivakumar has a seperate fan base in both the Telugu states, with his movies dubbed into Telugu.  Then there are his straight Telugu movies like Oopiri, with which he established himself as a hero with a considerable market in the two States.

Now, the hero acted in a unique movie, Khaidi, which belongs to a unique genre and has a unique screenplay.  Khaidi is a prison drama, which is based on the life of a prisoner.  The movie is different from other movies as it is shot totally during night time.  It has no heroine and songs, which are otherwise a staple of any mainstream movie.

Movie Details:

Cast: Karthi, Narain and Mariam George

Direction: Lokesh Kanagaraj

Music: Sam C.S.

Story:

A group of cops seize crores worth of drugs from a drug peddling gang.  They think of making money by getting a hold of other drug peddlers. Infuriated by this, another drug dealing gang targets a police intelligence officer with the help of an informer.  They also supply drug based liquor to a private police party.

Vijay (Narain) is a special officer recruited to rescue the accused police officers who consume liquor.  He takes the help of a just released prisoner, Delhi (Karthi.) How does Vijay rescue the accused police officers?  Does Delhi succeed in rescuing the cops? To what extent does he go to rescue the cops? This forms the story of Khaidi.

Review:

Khaidi is a classic example of Karthi’s phenomenal performance, similar to his fantastic performance in Paruthiveeran.  In every scene, the actor seamlessly portrays the role of a tough prisoner with a golden heart.  Khaidi is unarguably the greatest role Karthi played in his career and his best performance till date.  Karthi uses his eyes to effect in some scenes. The scenes between his daughter, a little girl and himself are particularly endearing.

Another important role is Narain’s.  The actor shares a good rapport with Karthi and both have the maximum screen presence in the movie.  As a police officer, Narain seems to own the role with his expressions and body language.

For a movie shot completely at night time, the cinematography in Khaidi is topnotch.  All the scenes are picturised during night time and the camerawork by Sathyan Sooryan is outstanding.

Overall, the movie leaves you wanting for more and Karthi’s performance is sure to linger in your mind for ages to come.

Go watch Khaidi and experience the magic of Lokesh Kanagaraj and Karthi.
