Bollywood woke up from a deep slumber with a new crop of directors from the South inspiring almost every blockbuster in Hindi in recent times. South movies are ruling the roost, to an extent an adage came to be invented in Bollywood ‘if you want to achieve the success of huge proportion, remake a South movie’!
With this approbation achieved, a new trend in Bollywood is wanting the original directors of blockbusters, to direct the remakes of those movies too. Many examples on the list are worth mentioning.
The first name, of course, is of Sandeep Reddy Vanga who is now sought out by Karan Johar and other producers for their movies. Ranbir Kapoor is currently acting in Sandeep’s direction and the upcoming film is said to be a thriller. Similarly, Prabhu Deva is all set to direct Salman Khan cop drama, Radhe to be released in 2020.
The genre of a horror comedy can be said to be mastered by the South directors chief among them, Raghava Lawrence who directed the hugely popular Kanchana series is now roped in by Akshay Kumar to direct the Hindi remake, Laxmmi Bomb. Similarly, young director Atlee who directed superstars like Vijay in South is remaking his hit, Raja Rani in Hindi and Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan is told to be reentering Bollywood with this movie after he suffered huge setbacks with his Bollywood movies like Zero.
The thinking actor of Bollywood, Aamir Khan too is not an exception to this South wave. He too has suffered huge setback with the disaster of Thugs Of Hindustan. The cult hit of Tamil cinema, Vikram Vedha which attained a never before place in the pantheon of gangster flicks in India.
Aamir Khan himself contacted the original directors Pushkar Gayatri to remake the film in Hindi, with himself and Saif Ali Khan as Vikram and Vedha.
Similarly, Nani starrer Jersey is going to be remade in Hindi with Shahid Kapoor, in the direction of the original director, Gowtam Tinnanuri. Karan Johar has bought the rights of this sports drama and the Vijay Deverakonda classic, Dear Comrade to remake in Hindi.
So, its raining South remakes in Hindi and we in the South are happy to see ur directors ruling the roost!
