Amitabh Bachchan is a veteran Bollywood actor who ruled the box office in the 1970s as the “Angry Young Man.” He built a reputation for himself in Indian cinema as the successor to acting greats like Dilip Kumar.
With his baritone voice and emoting skills, the 76 year old legend has become a brand ambassador for Indian cinema globally.
The Government of India selected Amitabh Bachchan for its highest cinema honor, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, which is given to a film personality who has contributed immensely to the Indian film industry.
Instituted in 1969, the Award recipients include Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, Dilip Kumar and Shashi Kapoor, from Bollywood. Amitabh will be the 50th recipient of this Award.
Amitabh started his career with Saat Hindustani in 1969 and then went on to become a popular star in the 1970s, replacing Rajesh Khanna as the mainstay of Hindi cinema.
Amitabh Bachchan’s movies Deewar, Sholay and Amar Akbar Antony are examples of how he achieved cult status across states.
Amitabh Bachchan will next be seen in Chiranjeevi’s historical, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, which releases on October 2nd, 2019.
