Actor Kichcha Sudeep is known for his towering screen presence and great charisma in Kannada cinema. However, his name became well known in India with S.S. Rajamouli’s Eega, in which he played the main antagonist. Pailwaan is his most costliest film to date, mounted on a big level, with the movie releasing in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, along with Kannada, the main language.
Pailwaan is a movie which focusses on Sudeep and his skills as an actor.
Cast: Kichcha Sudeep, Suniel Shetty, Aakanksha Singh, Kabir Duhan Singh and Sushant Singh
Director: S. Krishna
Music: Arjun Janya
Krishna (Sudeep) is an orphan brought up by a wrestling guru, Sarkar (Sunil Shetty.)
Sarkar trains Krishna to become the best wrestler in the state and wants him to win the national championship. However, Krishna is taken up by his success as a wrestler and goes haywire from his goal and falls in love with Rukmini (Aakanksha Singh.) This upsets Sarkar and he makes Krishna quit his wrestling academy.
How does Krishna regain his pride as a wrestler and gain his preceptor’s approbation? How does the man win the biggest match of his life, the national championship? This forms the rest of the story.
Sudeep and his makeover are the highest plus points of Pailwaan. The whole movie rests on his skills as a wrestler, his body and his stunts. The movie is, in a way, a tribute to Sudeep’s hard work to mount himself into other film markets outside Kannada.
Another character which shines bright is Sunil Shetty’s, which is the best of Sunil Shetty to date. He looks fit as a fiddle and brings credibility to his character.
Aakanaksha Singh gets a meaty role and she excels well in the role of Sudeep’s love interest.
Kabir Duhan Singh too plays his role as Sudeep’s main competitor well and is a treat to watch in scenes with Sudeep. Sushant Singh plays a jealous landlord who wants the doom of Krishna and he too plays his role excellently.
Pailwaan is a movie which rests on the well composed fight sequences and the great ensemble performances in the movie.
Pailwaan has a good background score too, which augurs well with the great staging of scenes.
Go and watch Pailwaan once, you will appreciate the effort gone behind making it.
