Shriya Saran is an actress who has been fortunate to work with the top actors in both Tollywood and Kollywood, in her almost two decades old film career.
Shriya belongs to the first crop of Bombay actresses, after Simran, who made it big in the South film industry.
Though she is not completely conversant in the languages in which she acted, during the age of hero domination, she gathered the courage to make an impact in the movies in which she acted.
Born in 1982 on September 11th, Shriya Saran celebrates her 37th birthday today. We look at her top five films, in which she starred opposite the number one artists of her time.
1. Santosham (2002)
This Dasarath directorial is known to be the first big ticket venture of Shriya in Telugu. The movie starred Nagarjuna Akkineni in the lead and told an unusual love story between a widower and his cousin, played by Shriya Saran. Shriya Saran played the role of one who nurtures silent feelings for her uncle but cannot overtly explain them. Shriya was also nominated for the Best Actress Award at Filmfare Awards South, but did not win it.
2. Tagore (2003)
Tagore was the remake of the Vijayakanth movie Ramana. In this movie, Chiranjeevi plays a vigilante activist, who unearths corruption in the society and kills the wrongdoers. Shriya played the love interest of Chiranjeevi in the movie and the movie was a smashing hit.
3. Sivaji: The Boss (2007)
The Shankar movie was a resounding success with superstar Rajinikanth playing the role of a common man rising to dizzying heights through his efforts. The movie starred Shriya Saran as Tamizhselvi. Though Shriya had less screen time in the movie, she played her role well and her songs with Rajinikanth were hits.
4. Gopala Gopala (2015)
The Pawan Kalyan starrer had superstar Venkatesh in this Kishore Kumar directorial. The role of Shriya Saran was a supporting one and she played it quite decently.
5. Gautamiputra Satakarni (2017)
The historical is based on the life and times of the first Telugu emperor, Gautamiputra Satakarni. Shriya Saran played the role of Vashisthi Devi, the wife of emperor Gautamiputra Satakarni. Many film critics were surprised seeing her performance in the movie and rated her performance as her best one ever in Tollywood.
