Dear Comrade And Character Of Lilly – A Welcome Change In Tollywood

Dear Comrade is out and is doing great business at the box office.  The serious love story has Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead and has a responsible, heart drenching storyline.

However, one of the chief aspects which the audience will appreciate and like is the portrayal of the heroine.  In Telugu cinema, generally, the heroine is only an eye candy, playing her bit of the ‘glamorous’ part. No character arc is defined or designated to the heroine.

Dear Comrade is a movie which is an exception, in the amount of respect, screen space and substance it gives to its heroine.

Rashmika Mandanna plays a young aspiring cricketer, Lilly (Aparna Devi) who passes through a tough phase in her career and is helped by her boyfriend, Chaithanya, nicknamed Bobby (Vijay Deverakonda.)  The way Rashmika’s Lilly is brought back to normalcy and the way she is literally nursed by Bobby to realize her dream of playing for the Indian Cricket Team tells a thing or two about the director’s vision of understanding what true love and companionship are, in reality.

The way director Bharat Kamma deals with the heroine’s portrayal on screen is a refreshing one in recent times.  Vijay Deverakonda adds charm and substance to his role of a young man who saves his relationship from facing the doldrums.

Such characters of strength and substance are the need of the hour.  Rashmika Mandanna worked really hard on her body language and diction and her whole personality in the movie are a treat to watch.

The fact Rashmika Mandanna read her lines in Telugu and dubbed them herself shows the extent to which she went to excel at playing her role.

Kudos to Team Dear Comrade, who gave an equal space to heroine on par with the hero and who treated a love story with a real sense of love.
