Tollywood is strewn with actresses from Mumbai, who come to test the waters of the South and who learn the craft of acting and emoting, as veteran actress Suhasini Maniratnam said during a media interaction.
One such actress, who came from Mumbai and who was luckily discovered by legendary Tamil director Bharathiraja, is Miss Kajal Aggarwal. The protege of director Teja has come a long way, from being a demure beauty in Lakshmi Kalyanam, to a confident actress, who is extremely successful in the South.
One aspect which everyone overlooks generally while following an actress or an actor, is the amount of groundwork that goes on in the homefront, to make sure everything is taken care of at home and the professional life goes on smoothly.
Suman Aggarwal, the businessman father of Kajal Aggarwal, is one such man who played a silent role in the success of Kajal Aggarwal, both as an actress and a human being.
The Bombay Girl and her loving father
Kajal Aggarwal made her debut with Lakshmi Kalyanam in 2007. Kajal would have made her debut in the South with Bharathiraja’s Bommalattam had the movie not been delayed and released in 2008.
In a freewheeling interaction with the media, Suman Aggarwal, who accompanies his daughter to every event, be it the launch of her films or an audio release or any other film related event, spoke about his daughter’s career graph, which he built indirectly as a pillar of support.
The scene in Lakshmi Kalyanam was an emotional one, with Kajal Aggarwal pouring her heart out to the leading man, Kalyan Ram. It was a new language, new people and new surroundings for a Mumbai bred North Indian girl, who knew only Hindi and English to converse and did not get a word of Telugu then. Teja was giving her instructions to go for the take, but due to the lack of understanding of the language, Kajal was not getting her lines right. Suman Aggarwal, who was by her side, took a cue from the director and took his daughter aside and explained to her the mood of the scene with Teja’s help and saw to it that Kajal gave a good take.
This was done with both the father and the daughter not understanding the language. This one aspect itself tells us a thing or two about the special bond Kajal Aggarwal and Suman Aggarwal share in this world of glitz and glamour.
A Unique Father in Recent Times
The filial bond between the two went on to grow stronger, from the days of Lakshmi Kalyanam to Sita (2019.) In this period, Kajal grew from a novice to a seasoned actress who, along with the Telugu film industry, also works in the Tamil, Hindi and Kannada industries too, making her one of the most successful actresses of her time in the South, along with Tamannaah Bhatia and Shriya Saran. These actresses withstood the tide of time and reinvented themselves to suit the times.
In Kajal Aggarwal’s case, Suman Aggarwal played a pivotal role in molding her career, without any hindrances or speed breakers which made her uncomfortable. The girl from Mumbai became a sought after star in the South commercial cinema, by playing offbeat roles like in Awe! too.
If one looks at it from a sensitive point of view, Suman Aggarwal is a father who understands the modern day requirements and helped his daughter emerge triumphant in her chosen field. In fact, every victory which Kajal Aggarwal achieves, she dedicates to the unseen force that Suman Aggarwal has been in her life.
Kudos to the extraordinary bond Kajal Aggarwal shares with her father. May Suman Aggarwal’s guidance continue to inspire his daughter to achieve more milestones!
