Aladdin—the very name wells up nostalgia in many movie goers’ mind. The fable from Arabian Nights is a hit, on whichever platform one presents it. In the modern era too, Aladdin has been made in various forms and still its popularity remains intact.
The live action genre version of Aladdin released today and it presents the story in a new format. Previously, the movie came out as an animation feature.Veteran director Guy Ritchie’s version, which released on May 24th, is a well crafted movie with a stellar cast. Aladdin delivers what it promises to be, a veritable treat. The familiar storyline is presented with great characterisation in the movie.
Cast: Will Smith, Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, Marwan Kenzari and Nasim Pedrad
Director: Guy Ritchie
The story of Aladdin, who is raised in poverty, his sudden discovery of the magic lantern and his journey with princess Jasmine is depicted with much creativity in the movie. Princess Jasmine wants to come out of the palace, which is similar to prison to her and the journey both Aladdin and Jasmine take from there is visually stunning.
Aladdin (Mena Massoud) is agile in fighting the treacherous wazir, Jaffer and Jasmine (Naomi Scott) is stunning in her avatar as princess does emote well.
However, this movie remains the movie of Will Smith, who carries Aladdin literally on his shoulders. His screen presence, comic timing and performance are memorable. All of this is capped by Guy Ritchie’s excellent directorial skills.
Go watch it to relive your childhood memories!
