Junior NTR, is a much sought after heroes of the Telugu Film industry. Many factors weigh in his mind when he accepts a role, which make him a thinking actor. It would be interesting to look at some of those movies he missed out due to various reasons, which went on to become hits, superhits and some cult classics.
1. Dil (2003) :
The movie which made Nitin what he is as a star was offered first to Junior NTR, who could not adjust his dates in his busy schedule. However, newcomer Nitin was roped in for the role by a debut producer, V. Venkata Raman Reddy, along with a new heroine, Neha. The aggressive love story ended up making lives settled for both the hero and the producer. V. V. Vinayak directed this flick and became a cult director who would produce more such action dramas. The producer prefixed the name of this movie and became Dil Raju and stayed in the Telugu film industry, making blockbusters one after one.
2. Arya (2004) :
Again Dil Raju offered the role of a young lover boy Arya, a happy go lucky guy who goes after the lover of his college mate and wins her love through patience and trust. Junior NTR was first offered this script. But as fate has it, Arya went to Allu Arjun. The movie went on to become a cult classic, rejuvenating Allu Arjun’s career graph and making him a permanent heartthrob of Malayalam fans as Mallu Arjun.
3. Athanokkade (2005) :
The Surender Reddy directorial had a taut screenplay which was racy and thrilling at a time. Reddy offered the role of a college student who avenges all the killers of his father and wins the love of his life. This aspect was a non-linear storytelling screenplay, cleverly employed by Surender Reddy. Junior NTR was first approached for the role, but again some date problems hindered him. The movie was a career hit for Kalyan Ram and made him sign a lot of projects thereafter.
4. Bhadra (2005) :
The revenge drama starring Ravi Teja was a roaring success at the box office. Boyapati Seenu, who directed the movie, as well as Dil Raju, the producer again, approached Junior NTR for his approval. He was by then busy doing some A- List projects and could not adjust the dates. The movie made Ravi Teja what he is now—a Mass Maharaja.
5. Kick (2009) :
The Surender Reddy action comedy starring again Ravi Teja and Ileana D’Cruz was an apt choice for Junior NTR for his comic timing. Later the film went to Ravi Teja. As an impulsive Kalyan, Ravi Teja played the role perfectly and attained a cult status as a slapstick comedy hero with this movie.
6. Oopiri (2016) :
The Vamshi Paidipally film was a runaway hit both in Tamil and Telugu, with Nagarjuna and Karthi perfectly matching the camaraderie as a rich businessman and his house help. Junior NTR could not do the movie and producer Prasad V. Potluri decided to go with Karthi both, for the Telugu and Tamil versions. The film went on to be a huge hit not only in India, but also overseas, making it a career hit in Karthi’s career.
Junior NTR, with his quirky choices, paved the way for many actors to cement their places in Tollywood. Hence, he should be lauded for this! As they say, one’s loss is another’s gain! It’s all in the game.
