It is a well known fact that the prestigious National Film Awards are given away each year on May 3rd, the day when India’s first full length Feature film, Raja Harishchandra released.
However, the award deciding committee this time, is helpless. The 66th edition of national film awards are getting delayed this year for reasons peculiar.
The reason is the Government decided to stop the selection process due to ongoing Lok Sabha Elections 2019,as a code of conduct was issued to all government authorities to stop any decisions which would reflect the current government’s vested interests.
The issue is, there is an award for the best state promoting film production through its conducive atmosphere. Due to this reason, the Jury decided to stop the decision till a new government gets to power till July.
Telugu movies like Rangasthalam, Mahanati, C/O Kancharapalem are in contention for various categories of the National Film Awards this time. Cine Pundits hope Mahanati wins the best cinematography and best actress awards for Dani- Sanchez Lopez and Keerthy Suresh, while Ram Charan might get a special jury award for his portrayal of a determined dumb village man, who fights injustice despite his disability.
