Mani Ratnam, a maverick movie maker, seems to have realised his lifelong dream of making a movie based on the Tamil classic novel Ponniyin Selvan (the son of the Kaveri, Raja Raja Chola,) post his moderate hit Chekka Sivantha Vanam (Nawab in Telugu,) released in 2018.
Reports say, the movie is going to have a pan Indian cast, including Hindi Superstar Amitabh Bachchan, Telugu actor Mohan Babu, Tamil stars Karthi and Jayam Ravi, while the distaff side of this historical movie is represented by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Keerthy Suresh, among others.
Mani Ratnam regulars like A.R. Rahman for music, Santhosh Sivan for cinematography, A. Sreekar Prasad for editing are, as always, working on this project too.
The budget seems to be a bother though. Initially, Mani Ratnam wanted to produce this movie under his home banner, the Madras Talkies, but due to the large costs involved, he decided to approach Reliance Entertainment to helm the reins of production cost. Talks are already on with the Reliance representatives, sources added.
