Upendra, the star of the Kannada film industry turns 51 today. An Indian filmmaker, politician, and actor, Upendra is predominantly known for his work in the South Indian cinema. His career began with working under the actor and film director Kashinath as a writer and an assistant director. His first directorial venture was Tharle Nan Maga.
In the mid-1990s Upendra directed the movie Om, that depicted the actual gangsters of Bangalore followed by A, his debut movie as an actor. After close to a decade in acting and featuring in movies, Upendra returned to his first love, direction with the multilingual movie, Super which was well received both critically and commercially. He is one of most well-known actors and is one of the highest paid directors of the Kannada industry.
Upendra is known for his thematic representation of the Indian politics and society through his movies and that is one of the most important reasons of his success in the industry. He entered politics and became a political figure when he joined the Karnataka Pragnyavanta Janata Paksha in October 2017. Upendra later split from the party a few months later owing to certain internal differences and decided to establish his own party, Prajakiya, which focusses on citizen-centric administration.
Later, in 2015 he made an appearance in the Telugu movie S/O Satyamurthy directed by Trivikram Srinivas wherein he played a powerful and important role alongside Allu Arjun. He did a tremendous job in this movie and completely justified the character. The movie was a blockbuster hit and grossed close to Rs.92 crores all over India and close to Rs.60 crores all over the world. He is currently working on the remake of the blockbuster Telugu movie Soggade Chinni Nayana which is titled as Upendra Matte Baa, Inti Ninna Prema opposite Prema and Shruti Hariharan.
