It is always good to see few directors coming out of their zone and making films. Puri Jagannadh, known for raw and reckless hero characterizations, and stories, has come out of his zone and made Mehbooba, an intense love story. The movie is out in theaters today. Here is our take on Puri’s Mehbooba.
Roshan (Akash Puri) is a Hyderabadi boy who just finishes his Engineering and plans to join in the Indian Army. Afreen (Neha Shetty) is a Pakistani girl who comes to India to pursue higher studies in Hyderabad. Both get haunted by their past life incidents in tneir dreams, regularly. Roshan helps Afreen in an incident, but they get to see each other for the first time in a train. Rohsan leaves to Himalayas and Afreen to Pakistan. Later they get to know shocking facts about their past lives. How did their past life lead their present life forms the rest of the story, with some great twists.
Akash Puri impresses with his performance, dialogue delivery and diction. He looks too good at presenting emotions in intense & emotional scenes. One can clearly see Puri Jagannadh in Akash, especially in the first half of the film. Akash promises to be a star in making, by delivering a stunning performance in his debut as Hero. Neha Shetty looks good and performs well enough. Sayaji Shinde brings laughs as the Father of Akash. Murali Sharma, Vishu Reddy and others have done their jobs good enough.
– Akash Puri Performance
– Story & Dialogues by Puri Jagannadh
– Last 45 minutes
– Emotional scenes
– Action episodes
– Stunning visuals
– Crisp Editing
– Slow narration at parts
– Clitchy climax
Puri jagannadh is known for his hero characterizations, their unique attitudes and recklessness. But he changed his style of writing and came up with an honest and intense love story. Puri got succeeded in balancing the patriotism of both Indian and Pakistanis. After all, one must appreciate Puri Jagannadh for sticking to the story and bringing out something new from him. The locations and the CGI based war episodes were too good, making Mehbooba a rich production valued.
Akash Puri emoted very well in intense scenes, making the emotional quotient worth keeping. Puri Jagannadh must be appreciated for not diverting the audience mood from the plot by putting any unwanted scenes, comedy. The movie is clean with vulgarity.
How well did Technical Aspects work out for Mehbooba:
The cinematography by Vishnu Sarma is stunning, while editing by Junaid Siddique is crisp and perfect. The art work is good enough. Music by Sundeep Chowta is fine, while the songs are just okay.
One can happily go and watch this intense, and honest love story by Puri Jagannadh. The second half of the film is better than the first half, especially the last 45 minutes came out very well. Akash Puri’s performance, locals, war episodes, intense and brave episodes makes Mehbooba a worth watch this weekend. Please watch it only in theaters and kill piracy.
