Sumanth carved a niche for himself with feel-good films such as Godavari, Golkonda High School. He is back to his forte – love drama – with Malli Raava that marks the directorial debut of Gautam. Gautam has chosen a simple plot of how childhood sweethearts reunite against all the odds and how they win their love. This has been dealt nicely. Read our review to delve into what worked for Malli Raava.
Karthik (Sumanth) and Anjali (Akansha) are childhood friends who love each other immensely. The news reach their parents and trouble begins for their love. They part ways owing to the destiny yet they have not given up their feelings for each other. But what comes in between them? What really holds Anjali back? Why did she drop her plan to marry Karthik on the wedding day? Will they reunite ever?
Sumanth is at his ease as Karthik. He is aptly fit into the role. One don’t see Sumanth on screen as what we see is Karthik. His love for Anjali is so immense that he wouldn’t question her even after she dumps him on the wedding day.
Unlike the regular heroine roles in formula films, Akansha has a role with substance in Malli Raava. The whole film revolves around her. All other characters have limited role. Sumanth’s friend does a good job. Director Gautam recruited good cast making Malli Raava a fine show of performances.
Kudos to Gautam for picking up a simple yet interesting plot and making it an engaging film. The biggest strength of the film lies in its writing. The characters of Karthik, Akansha Singh have been well-written. Despite some complexity (generated due to the back-and-forth screenplay), how all the dots are connected aptly is where the director succeeded.
The various phases in the lives of Karthik and Akansha are nostalgic. Especially, the childhood episodes remind us of our childhood.
Yes, the film’s pace may put off a few to some extent. But this is worth the watch. Watch it till the end, you will walk out with a good experience. The film’s music takes the film to the next high. It can be called a musical love story that straddle between the time zones of 1999, 2012 and 2017.
Malli Raava is a breezy romantic drama. It is so fresh. The film is worth a watch.
