Mangalampalli Balamurali Krishna is an Indian Carnatic vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, playback singer, music composer and actor has taken his last breath. He was ailing for some time and has been getting treatment in a Chennai private hospital. He was discharged to his home recently to spend his last days. Suddenly, in the afternoon he took a turn for the worst, and he was no more. His was 86.
Balamurali Krishna started his career at the age of six. Up to now, he has given 25,000 concerts worldwide. He is also known for popularizing the compositions of Sri Bhadrachala Ramadasu and Sri Annamacharya.
At the age of eight, Balamuralikrishna gave his first full fledged concert at a Thyagaraja Aradhana, in Vijayawada. By the age of fifteen, he had mastered all the 72 melakartha ragas and had composed krithis in the same. Balamuralikrishna has composed over 400 compositions in various languages like Telugu, Sanskrit, Kannada and Tamil.
Mangalampalli was awarded the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan for his contribution towards Indian Art. He was made Chevalier de Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Government in 2005. He made his acting debut with “Bhakta Prahlada” in the year of 1967 under AVM Productions as ‘Narada’, and has acted in various films.
