Shankar Narayan (Prakash Raj) is a political leader and a man of the masses. He wants his son Ajay (Mahesh Babu) to become a political leader. Shankar Narayan is hurt in an accident and goes into a coma. Meanwhile, Ajay grows up and goes onto become an aggressive cop instead.
Suddenly Shankar Narayan comes out of the coma. The rest of the story is all about how Ajay manages to keep the changes under wrap for his father and takes revenge on the villains at the same time with some unconventional plays.
Mahesh Babu proved himself again as a director’s actor. And his character in this movie is well developed. He is ravishing, witty and quick. he is very good at dialogue delivery and as well in dances. His versatility in acting and emoting of various expressions is very impressive. As usual, he rocks with his unique style and handsome looks.
Samantha plays a character named Prashanti, and she is a pure eye candy and Chinamayi lends her voice to breath life into the character just like in “Ye Maya Chesave.” All those Brahmanandam lovers will have another feast in this movie in which he acts as an actor of a fictitious reality show. M.S. Narayana does an excellent role in this film as an aged aspiring actor. On the whole, everyone chipped in with excellent performances. One major asset of the movie is the sultry Parvathi Melton‘s special number.
Sreenu Vaitla’s main strength has always been entertainment and he made sure that there are ample characters to create humor. Characterization of Mahesh Babu is done well and the director also showed Mahesh Babu in a new light with better comedy timing.
“Dookudu” became one of the biggest hits in the history of Telugu cinema and was the biggest hit in Mahesh Babu’s career. The film ended the five-year career slump of Mahesh Babu and marked his image makeover. The plus points of the movie are Mahesh Babu’s charm, Seenu Vaitla’s comedy timing, and a workable script.
Dialogues penned by Kona Venkat and Sreenu Vaitla are very good. There are excellent one liner punches. They are humor dialogues and heroism dialogues. Music by S.S. Thaman has already become a chartbuster and very good background music.

For this film, Srihari was selected for a crucial role but was replaced by Prakash Raj later.
The film was also dubbed into Hindi as “The Real Tiger” and into Malayalam as “Choodan”.
The Times of India called this film “Dookudu” is one of the ten must watch Telugu films of 2011.
